Ok, here goes nothing.
I actually purchased the ring after having gone with Jocelyn and she approved of a ring I selected but I kept her in the dark and said we would still keep looking around. I was planning on proposing before Christmas but because of technical difficulties I was unable to.
After about a month of trying to figure out how I was going to do it I landed on an idea that I thought was pretty good. After some more thought I tweaked the idea and made it more my own.
The week that I planned on doing it I told her that we were going to go ring shopping after we had a nice dinner and suggested that we dress nice just for fun and a change of pace. She agreed and didn't seem to think anything of it.
So Saturday came and I hit the ground running. I got a haircut and got prepared for the big night and the next thing I knew I was on my way to pick up her favorite food from the restaurant that I used to work at. I had the nervous butterflies in my stomach but I felt really good. When I picked up the food I was mauled by the people that worked their asking me why I was dressed up and then congratulating me and asking questions about how I was going to do it. Their reactions boosted my confidence.
Anyway, so I had lined the counter in my kitchen with about 30 of those little tiny candles and prepared some Jon Schmidt to listen to while we ate. I borrowed a nice table cloth from the neighbors and got out my mom's nice china and cleaned up all nice. My family helped by lighting the candles and setting the table (oh yeah, there was three more larger candles on the table).
I picked her up and she looked absolutely beautiful and I was so happy. We arrived at the house and when she saw the candles she said that it was way cute. It smelled like smoke a bit but it ended being ok. When she saw the type of salad that was on our plates she knew what was for dinner and was way excited.
We enjoyed our meal and the music and just each other's company it was wonderful. When we finished we retired to the front room where I had put my acoustic guitar. I had prepared three songs for her that are pretty perfect in my opinion I'll share what they are and some lyrics:
Here In Your Arms by Hellogoodbye
Our lips can touch
and our cheeks can brush
and our lips can touch, here.
Where you are the one the one who lies close to me,
Whispers, "Hello, I've missed you quite terrible."
I fell in love in love with you suddenly
Now there's no place else I could be but here in your arms.
Yellow by Coldplay
Look at the stars
Look how they shine for you
And everything you do
Yeah, they were all yellow
Your skin
Oh yeah, your skin and bones
Turn into something beautiful
You know, you know I love you so
You know I love you so
I Won't Spend Another Night Alone by the Ataris
If I had one wish this is what it would be...
I'd ask you to spend all your time with me,
That we'd be together forever.
We'd buy a small house in south central Salt Lake
Raise lots of kids then we'd both join a gang
Just as long as we're together.
During the first song she started to cry and I almost lost a bit there. Yellow is one of her most favorite all time songs and so she really started to cry after that. It was awesome. :)
When I finished I said, "I know that we said no gifts (for Valentine's and such since we are poor) but I got you something." So I pulled out the gift and gave it to her. She almost immediately knew what it was for when she began unwrapping it. I bought her some scriptures and had them put "Jocelyn Renae Taylor" on them for her name when we get married. While she was opening it I had grabbed the ring from behind a couch cushion and I was already on both knees and I got onto one and asked her to marry me. She said yes.
Awesome? I think so.
Sorry it's so long.
Thanks for reading,
E. Thomas
